The Charleston District recently awarded the second and final contract for the Charleston Harbor Post 45 entrance channel portion of the harbor deepening. The contract was the largest contract ever awarded by the District. The announcement was made at the South Carolina International Trade Conference.

Charleston District employee Brad Ryzcko maintains bee hives in his backyard. Beekeeping is a hobby, but he is proud that he is helping to pollinate South Carolina, which is also a goal of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

A new way to harvest oysters has emerged, and it is called Oystergro. Many people are requesting permits from the Charleston District to place Oystergro farms in waters of the United States, which provides new challenges and opportunities for the Regulatory Division.

13 Charleston District employees have deployed to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands in support of hurricane response. Their missions are part of the overall USACE missions to restore power, rebuild infrastructure, provide clean water and much more.

The Charleston District recently participated in the groundbreaking ceremony at Fort Jackson for the new Pierce Terrace Elementary School. The new school will have 21st century features and will be instrumental in the education of future students. The Charleston District is proud to be a part of this construction project.
