Published Dec. 18, 2013

CHARLESTON, SC- Lisa Metheney has been selected as the new Deputy District Engineer for Programs and Project Management for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District. This is the highest civilian position in the Charleston District, and she was selected by a Corps division-level panel out of 105 initial applicants.

In this role, Metheney will be responsible for programmatic oversight of the planning, design and construction of military, civil works, environmental, and interagency and international support projects for the Charleston District.

Metheney has been serving as the Assistant Chief for Programs and Project Management Division at the Charleston District since 2009, where she has been responsible for the execution and management of funds for the District’s civil works, military construction, and interagency and international support programs. She also has been directly overseeing the project management of the District’s civil works projects, including the Charleston Harbor Post 45 Deepening Feasibility Study.

“Not only does she serve as an example for others who aspire to serve as a senior leader within the Corps, but she is experienced and poised to take on the challenges we will inevitably face in the future,” said Lt. Col. John Litz, district commander. “Her experience with the Corps and the Charleston District make her a great fit.”

Metheney joined the Charleston District in 1999 after working for the Corps’ Huntington District for six years. She has her bachelor’s degree in economics and master’s degree in business administration, both from Marshall University.

Metheney will be taking the place of Bill Stein who has been serving in the position since 2003 and will be retiring on January 6.

"The SC Ports Authority has an excellent relationship with the US Army Corps of Engineers, and we have worked extensively with Lisa on our harbor deepening project,” said Jim Newsome, CEO of the SCSPA.  “We congratulate her on this well-deserved promotion as we wish Bill well in his retirement. This transition is an amazing testament to the strength of the Charleston District staff."

“We look forward to continuing to work on the beach projects with Lisa in her new role,” added Mayor Tim Goodwin of Folly Beach. “Congratulations on this accomplishment and we look forward to our day-to-day business together.”
