Mitigation Banking
Charleston District project managers examine the color of a soil sample using a Munsell Color sheet during a visit to one of the mitigation banks located on the Brosnan Forest property in Dorchester County, SC in Spring 2025. Soils are colored based on their Chroma (how red they are) and value (how dark they are). Typically, the lower the chroma, the more hydric the soil. Wetlands require three indicators to be classified as a wetland: Hydrophytic Vegetation, Wetland Hydrology, and Wetland Soils.
