The proposed work consists of widening an existing roadway and reconfiguration of existing interchanges. The proposed project would impact a total of 2.18 acres of freshwater wetlands and 3,158 linear feet of freshwater non-wetland waters. In detail, the proposed project would involve the discharge of approximately 1,000,000 cubic yards of fill material into a total of 1.94 acres of wetlands and a total of 460 linear feet of non-wetland waters associated with roadway widening along Interstate 26, new ramp and roadway alignments at the Exit 129 and Exit 136 interchanges and construction of acceleration/deceleration lanes; a total of 1,537 linear feet of non-wetland waters would be impacted by pipes/culverts to divert current flow under Interstate 26 and new roadways, as well as maintain downstream connections to surrounding stream and wetland systems; a total of 1,479 linear feet of non-wetland waters would be impacted by morphological changes that are necessary to reroute streams parallel to the interstate and allow for a more stable stream channel; and 942 linear feet of non-wetland waters would be impacted by the discharge of rip-rap necessary to provide slope stabilization and prevent scour. In addition to these permanent impacts, a total of 0.23 acres of wetlands would be temporarily cleared in order to provide construction access and installation of sediment and erosion best management practices (BMPs).
