PROJECT NAME: Broad River Road (US 176) Widening

COUNTY: Richland County

WATERWAY & LOCATION: The project is located in waters of the United States associated with unnamed tributaries and wetlands in both the Saluda River Watershed (HUC 8: 03050109) and the Lower Broad River Watershed (HUC 8: 03050106).  The project/review area is located along Broad River Road (US 176), generally between Royal Tower Road (S-1862) and Shady Grove Road (S-80) in Irmo; at Latitude 34.11441 and Longitude -81.19661; in Richland, County, South Carolina.

PROPOSED WORK: The proposed work consists of the placement of fill material into three (3) wetlands and three (3) streams to facilitate the construction of additional travel lanes for an approximately 2.8-mile segment of Broad River Road and an approximately 0.27-mile segment of Dutch Fork Road. The project would widen the existing roadway from two to five lanes with curb and gutter between Royal Tower Drive and Dutch Fork Road.  The project would include 12-foot inside travel lanes with 14-foot outside travel lanes to accommodate bicycle traffic, and a 15-foot dual left turn center lane.  Additional intersection improvements within the Project Study Area are also planned as part of this project.   Sidewalks on either side of the road would be constructed to support safe pedestrian usage.  Total proposed impacts include 0.22 acre of wetland impacts consisting of filling, clearing, and flooding, as well as 1415.04 linear feet (0.23 acre) of stream impacts comprised of 53.17 linear feet of fill for road widening, 231.48 linear feet of armoring, 584.76 linear feet of relocation (morphologic impact) for a detention pond, and 545.63 linear feet of fill for a detention pond.
